Oldies at Large – All About Downsizing

I read an article the other day and I gotta agree… Yes, “downsizing is the way to go” in retirement, even if it is your dinner plate. This article really got me thinking. Retirement does mean downsizing … even in life’s other avenues. We downsized our housing just before retirement, that is we moved into the granny flat that we built for my parents a decade previously. This mainly because between the dining room… The Mans favourite haunt, and the lounge room, which was my haunt, we never saw much of each other. This is a sure path to divorce I figured so things had to change. My parents lived in the granny flat in their time, until my Dad passed and my Mum decided she really wanted to be elsewhere. She is now settled in a small retirement unit on the mid coast that is closer to most of the family and she has been happy there for some years now.

I’m parked up in another of the many bush camp today, and I do love the bush camp I have discovered. Previously I have written about the delights of a camp out amongst the gum trees, but in our time travelling full time around Aus’ … and for a long time on and off, we have heard so many of our friends and mates comment on how we are living the life. We are dawdling our way around the country on “The Lap” and already we are planning lap No.2 … there is just so much to see and so many adventures to be had. So I thought it was perhaps time to look at just what that means as a lifestyle.

Understanding Freecampers – An Aussie Lifestyle

We might change it, upgrade or downgrade but this will be in time. There has been much debate about freecamping in the social media, and as freecamping has become our way of life I thought it would be apt to explain just what, to us, freecamping is for those uninitiated who think we are merely avoiding handing over our hard won resources to caravan parks.
